Zepbound 5 mg/0.5 mL injection Images
Zepbound® (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly, subcutaneous injection approved for chronic weight management in adults who are obese (BMI ≥30) or overweight (BMI ≥27) with at least one related condition such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol. The 5 mg dose is typically used after the initial 2.5 mg starting dose and represents the second step in the dose escalation plan.
Tirzepatide works by activating two key hormone receptors—GIP and GLP-1—to regulate appetite, improve insulin sensitivity, and reduce food intake. These effects support meaningful, sustained weight loss and improved metabolic health.
Administration involves a subcutaneous injection into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm once weekly, with injection sites rotated regularly. The 5 mg dose is generally used for at least four weeks before increasing to higher doses, based on the patient’s tolerance and clinical goals.
Zepbound should be stored in the refrigerator, but it may be kept at room temperature for up to 21 days. It must not be frozen or exposed to direct heat or sunlight.
Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, constipation, or abdominal discomfort, particularly during dose changes. Zepbound is not recommended for individuals with a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), and it is not for use in people with type 1 diabetes.
